The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has questioned the Ukrainian version of the missile crash in Poland and assured that it could have been «a big false flag operation» to blame Russian forces for the launch and thus justify a possible response.
«Poles and Ukrainians regret that it was not a Russian missile. They need a provocation, an escalation,» said Lukashenko on Monday, during a meeting reported by the official BelTA news agency in which he assured that he intends to gather «additional information» on the case.
The Belarusian leader suggested that the missile was going «in the opposite direction» to the Russian projectiles it was supposedly trying to intercept and at a time when «there were no missiles in the air». Among the questions that remain, he has cited, «At what time did the Ukrainians fire the S-30 missile? At what target?»
«The Americans are also silent,» Lukashenko has said, who has nevertheless acknowledged his American counterpart, Joe Biden, who hours after the incident already pointed to Ukraine as the origin of the downed missile in Poland. «Well done, Joe Biden,» said Lukashenko, who emphasized how quickly the issue «is already out of the headlines in the West.»
