The Polish Minister of Defense, Mariusz Blaszczak, confirmed on Monday a new deployment by Germany of the Patriot anti-missile system inside Polish territory and said he will propose to relocate it to the border with Ukraine.

Blaszczak has told via Twitter that he has accepted the proposal presented by his German counterpart, Christine Lambrecht, to increase the deployment of this military defense system within Polish borders.

«I have gladly accepted the proposal of the German Minister of Defense to redeploy Patriot missile launchers in our country. During today’s telephone conversation with the German side, I will propose that the system be stationed on the border with Ukraine,» he wrote.

In recent hours, Lambrecht expressed the need to increase the presence of this anti-missile system in Poland following last week’s incident in which two people were killed following the collision of a downed Ukrainian missile while trying to repel a Russian attack, according to the version of the Polish authorities.

For their part, Ukrainian military authorities have stated that they are confident that such an anti-missile system can be placed on the border they share with Poland.

«Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion, we have asked the whole world to protect us, to close our skies, to provide us with weapons and aircraft. We really want this to happen. At least on that part of the front, we will somehow have our skies protected with these systems,» said Yuri Ignat, the Armed Forces spokesman.
