Colombian President Gustavo Petro confirmed on Wednesday that the government of Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan opposition will resume on Friday the dialogue process suspended since the talks in Mexico in October 2021.

This is what Petro said in his official Twitter profile, also pointing out that there will be talks on Saturday after the meeting between the parties held in Paris last November 11, promoted by the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and also sponsored by Norway.

The Paris Peace Forum was attended by the president of the Chavista National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, and by Gerardo Blyde as representative of the Venezuelan opposition. After the meeting, Petro himself assured that there was «a greater rapprochement» between the parties «towards political and social agreements».

Petro’s proposal is that there be an economic unblocking in Venezuela, that an amnesty be implemented to free all prisoners detained for political reasons and that an electoral coexistence pact be drawn up to provide guarantees for all forces and that citizens have the opportunity to decide.
