The Kiev City Council on Thursday awarded former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson the title of Honorary Citizen of the capital for his role in the war with Russia, as he would have done «everything possible» to ensure the support of London and the rest of the international community to the Ukrainian cause.

This was announced by the Mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, who described Johnson as «a great friend of Ukraine», recalling in turn the «repeated» occasions on which he visited the country’s capital, «both in times of peace and in the most dramatic moments» of the war.

«Johnson has done and I am sure he will continue to do everything possible to ensure that the UK and world leaders provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance. Thank you for the support!» acknowledged Klitschko.

The mayor of the Ukrainian capital has concluded his message by again inviting Johnson to the city in order to present him with this «honorable» distinction, as it can be read on his Telegram account.

During the war, Johnson made a habit of traveling to the Ukrainian capital to show his support to the local authorities and especially to President Volodomir Zelenski, especially in the last moments of his convulsive mandate, which for many was a way to escape criticism.

This week, Johnson has been in the news again after he criticized several European partners, such as France, Germany and Italy, for the position they allegedly took at the beginning of the Russian aggression.

Thus, he assured that at a given moment Germany considered «better» an attack by Moscow so that «everything would end quickly and Ukraine would surrender», while he reproached France for ignoring his warnings about a Russian invasion and Italy for saying that they could not support London’s position because of its «massive» dependence on Russian hydrocarbons.

Assertions that were rejected by those involved, including Germany, which somewhat ironically described Johnson as a «joker» who «has always had his own relationship with the truth».
