Russia’s representative to the United Nations, Vasili Nebenzia, told the UN Security Council on Wednesday that Russian attacks on infrastructure facilities in Ukraine is a reaction to the arms supply being made by Western countries to Kiev.

«We are attacking infrastructure facilities in Ukraine in response to the shelling of Ukraine with Western weapons and Kiev’s reckless calls for a military victory over Russia,» the Russian representative to the UN has indicated.

«Western countries are trying to establish their geopolitical hegemony by proxy and the lives of Ukrainians,» he has criticized.

Moreover, the Russian diplomat has nuanced that Russia will continue actions to limit the Ukrainian military potential until Kiev adopts a «realistic negotiating position».

«For now, what we hear from (Ukrainian President Volodimir) Zelensky and his associates is by no means a readiness for peace, but only the language of reckless threats and ultimatums,» he has expressed, before adding that Ukraine promotes «an irresponsible line.»

In this regard, Nebenzia argued that «damage to residential buildings and civilian casualties are due to the failure of the Ukrainian air defense», for not having placed defensive equipment on the outskirts of cities, «but in their very center».

«As a result, missile fragments or stray Ukrainian missiles hit objects that Russia did not even target,» he said, as reported by the Russian news agency Interfax.

INVESTIGATION OF RUSSIAN TORTURE In turn, Nebenzia urged the international community to assess the allegations of torture of Russian prisoners of war by Ukrainian servicemen.

«More and more evidence of the use of torture and torture by Ukraine in violation of the Geneva Conventions of 1949 is being documented,» he has indicated.

Thus, he called on both the international community and international human rights organizations to take a stand on violations of international humanitarian law by Ukraine, reports TASS.
