Ukrainian intelligence said Monday that Belarusian threats about its possible participation in the war are part of a campaign to destabilize Ukrainian troops and population.

According to the director of the Ukrainian Intelligence, Andrii Yusov, the information launched from Minsk and Moscow about Belarus’ entry into the war pursues «several objectives at the same time».

One of them would be the mobilization and deployment of Ukrainian troops in other points of the border with Belarus, thus clearing other territories, which would facilitate the Russian advance, according to Ukrinform news agency.

But at the same time, these threats also have an effect not only on the morale of Russian troops, but also among Belarusians who, according to Yusov, would be more committed to their country’s participation in a full-scale war.

Thus, although the Ukrainian intelligence officer considers that for the time being Belarusian participation in the war is not a reality, he acknowledged that such a threat does exist in part.

At this point he again accused Belarus and its president, Alexander Lukashenko, of supplying arms to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in the framework of the offensive on Ukraine, which began more than nine months ago.
