Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba has accused Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of «using Ukraine» to play «his own game with the European Union» for his own interests.

Kuleba, who pointed out that Orbán «continues to play the same game as always» with Brussels, insisted that the Ukrainians and Hungarians «will continue to be friends» in spite of this. Thus, he said that «it is necessary to win the war» and reminded that this «is in the interests of Hungary and Ukraine».

Orbán has repeatedly shown his disagreement with the EU sanctions policy against Russia in the framework of the invasion of Ukraine and has stressed that some of these measures «do more harm to the EU than to Russia».

Hungary has also twice decided to block the inclusion of Patriarch Cyril, the top representative of the Orthodox Church in Russia, on the EU sanctions list.

In this regard, he has addressed the Hungarians themselves, whom he has urged to «disregard media reports about the alleged enmity of Ukrainians towards Hungarians.»

He also assured that there are countries that will not deliver enough weapons to the country «for political reasons», a fact that he assured «must be accepted». «There are countries in the world that have what Ukraine needs but are not going to sell it to it in sufficient quantities,» he said.

«Instead of counting on them, we have to spend months and months trying to convince them. We have to get production going so as not to depend on third countries that have armaments they are not willing to share,» he has pointed out.

Kuleba stressed that the authorities should thus «be realistic» and be «less reluctant» to depend on their partners, while calling on NATO countries to «produce the necessary weapons now». «We will not be able to win if this does not happen. It’s as simple as that,» he added.

However, he praised the work of Ukraine’s partners and their help in strengthening the country’s defense, although he reaffirmed that «we waste a lot of time and spend a lot of lives and square kilometers of territory.» «That is why I think that wisdom will prevail and everything will be done in time. We should not wait for another tragedy to happen,» he added.
