
An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the open Richter scale has shaken this Friday the North Island of New Zealand, one of the two main islands that make up the country, with no reports of casualties or damage for the moment.
GeoNet, the agency dedicated to monitoring natural disasters in New Zealand, has indicated on its website that the epicenter was located 25 kilometers southeast of the town of Tokoroa, with the hypocenter located at a depth of 156 kilometers.
It also noted that so far dozens of aftershocks have been recorded, including one of magnitude 4.5 on the open Richter scale with epicenter 20 kilometers southwest of Taupo and the hypocenter at a depth of five kilometers.
