The Congress of the Republic of Peru has notified this Friday the President of the country, Pedro Castillo, that next Wednesday, December 7, the debate on the motion of censure presented against him will be held.

An employee of the Legislative has gone to the Government Palace to deliver the document in which the President is informed that the session will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. (local time).

The Peruvian Parliament approved on Thursday to debate the motion of censure presented by the opposition against President Castillo, who will face his third motion at the head of the Government.

With 73 votes in favor, 32 against and six abstentions, the plenary of the Congress of the Republic admitted the motion of censure against the president, according to the Peruvian radio station RPP.

The censure of Castillo will only go ahead if at least 87 parliamentarians, which means two thirds of the chamber, vote in favor of the expulsion of the president, constantly questioned by the Legislative since he took the reins of the Executive in July last year.

The first motion of vacancy presented against Castillo obtained the support of only 46 deputies and was not even debated in the plenary. The second attempt gathered 76 votes in favor, although in the final vote it could only gather 55 supports, far from the 87 needed.
