Iraq’s Council of Representatives, the lower house of Parliament, approved on Saturday the appointment of the last two ministers to finalize the composition of the country’s new government after months of paralysis and chaotic prospects for the future in the political absence of the big winner of last year’s legislative elections, the cleric Muqtada al Sadr.

The last two ministers confirmed were the Minister of Environment, Nizar Mohamed Said Namidi, and his colleague Bankin Abdullah Rikani, who will be Minister of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works, announced the official Iraqi news agency, INA.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamad Shia al Sudani thus completes his Executive a month and a half after his appointment on October 13, the subject of strong protests by the followers of the influential Shiite cleric al Sadr.

It should be recalled that the 73 members of the Sadrist bloc, the most voted formation in the November legislative elections, resigned their seats in Parliament in protest against the refusal of the other political forces, especially the pro-Iranian parties united in the Framework of Coordination platform, to grant them their support for the formation of a government.
