The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez, has conveyed to his Peruvian counterpart, Dina Boluarte, his commitment to collaborate with the strengthening of democracy in the Andean nation after the recent attempt by former President Pedro Castillo to dissolve the Parliament and decree a government of exception.

Fernández had a telephone conversation with Boluarte this Friday in which she expressed «her backing, support and collaboration in the framework of strengthening» «democracy, bilateral relations and regional policies», according to the Peruvian president herself.

Likewise, the Presidency of Peru has stressed, in a publication on its official Twitter profile, that Fernandez has advocated for «strengthening the ties of brotherhood, friendship and cooperation» between both South American nations.

Already on Wednesday, the Casa Rosada showed its «deep concern» for the «political crisis» that Peru went through and called on the actors involved to safeguard the democratic institutions, the constitutional order and the rule of law.

On that day, Peru was the scene of a sort of coup d’état in which the then president, Pedro Castillo, decreed the dissolution of Parliament and the imposition of a government of exception. However, Castillo had no backing and ended up being arrested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and expelled by the Congress of the Republic.
