The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, referred Thursday to the political crisis in Peru and stressed that although they do not interfere in the internal affairs of any country, he hopes that the Peruvian people, within the framework of its Constitution, will soon achieve «their path of liberation, democracy and happiness».

«We do not interfere in the internal affairs of any country, I only make a reflection and hope that the Peruvian people, within the framework of its Constitution, will sooner rather than later achieve its path of liberation, true democracy, its path of happiness and full realization», said the Venezuelan president.

«Peace for Peru, democracy for Peru, justice for Peru, we Bolivarians ask from South America», said Maduro, who criticized the persecution Pedro Castillo has had to face since he assumed the Presidency in July 2021.

«They elect a master president, Pedro Castillo, and from the first moment of the election they do not want to recognize his triumph, at the end forced by reality they have to recognize his triumph as president, and once he is sworn in on July 28, 2021 the conspiracy for a parliamentary coup begins», he has said.

In this sense, Maduro has blamed those forces of the ultra-right, represented by that «oligarchy that does not allow a teacher to be president», for having pressured him -between «coups and a parliamentary, political and judicial persecution without limits»- to dissolve the Congress of Peru».

This Wednesday, the Peruvian Congress approved the dismissal of Pedro Castillo shortly after he announced the closure of the Parliament and declared a government of exception, all this in the midst of strong political pressures and investigations on alleged corruption against him since he assumed power in July 2021.

Castillo now remains in detention for the next seven days while the investigation against him for the alleged crime of rebellion continues after he announced he was dissolving Congress. As required by the Constitution, the then vice-president, Dina Boluarte, has taken over the presidency.
