Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro made his first public appearance since his electoral defeat against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on October 30 and addressed the demonstrators gathered in front of the presidential residence, highlighting his relationship with the Armed Forces and without congratulating the president-elect.
After the match of the Brazilian national team, the president met with his followers for about 15 minutes, according to local media, and pronounced some words in which he referred on several occasions to the Armed Forces and his relationship with them, which he defines as the last obstacle to socialism, as stated by ‘Folha de Sao Paulo’.
«I am sure that among my functions guaranteed in the Constitution is to be the supreme chief of the Armed Forces. The Armed Forces are fundamental in any country in the world. I have always said in these four years that the Armed Forces are the last obstacle to socialism,» he assured.
Bolsonaro also assured that he has never left the «four lines» marked by the constitutional text and assured that he believes that «victory will also be like that». He asked his supporters to «be informed» and not to criticize something without knowing the details, after which he pointed out that «if something goes wrong» it is because he lost his leadership and assumes his mistakes.
Then, the president criticized the expression ‘I authorize’ repeated in this and other rallies by the demonstrators, which refers to a ‘call to action’ to the Armed Forces and has reproached that this phrase is equivalent to charge him with all the responsibility.
«I am not ‘I authorize’, it is not putting the responsibility on one person, I am exactly the same as each one of you, of flesh, blood, feeling», he assured, after which he pointed out that it is the people «who decide where the Armed Forces will go» and affirmed that they are living a «crucial moment».
