The Colombian National Police arrested on Saturday a van belonging to the National Protection Unit, part of the Ministry of the Interior, in which a man was transporting 150 kilos of cocaine in a municipality in the department of Cauca, located along the country’s coast.
According to the information provided by the authorities, the man was identified during a routine security check in which he refused to cooperate with the agents and leave the vehicle, as he had been asked to do, according to the portal Noticias RCN.
The driver, identified as Manuel Antonio Castañeda Bernal, had claimed to be a former officer of the National Police and now to belong to the UNP and to be transporting a protégé, which is why he refused to get out of the van in which he was driving.
However, the agents requested the reinforcement of an antinarcotics canine guide, after which they found a total of 168 packages of cocaine hydrochloride stored in the vehicle. In addition, inside the vehicle there were several UNP corps items such as caps, badges and other emblems.
The authorities have already initiated an investigation into the incident and are waiting for the detainee to be brought before the courts.
