At least one military officer and one civilian were killed Wednesday in a suicide bombing in the Pakistani town of Miransha, located in North Waziristan near the border with Afghanistan, the Pakistan Army confirmed Thursday.

«On December 14, 2022, a suicide bombing took place in the Miransha area,» the Army said in a statement in which it said a serviceman identified as Muahamad Amir «embraced martyrdom.» «In addition, an innocent civilian also embraced martyrdom, while nine innocent civilians were wounded,» it added.

Security sources quoted by the Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn’ have indicated that the target of the attack was a convoy of Pakistani forces and have detailed that the attack was perpetrated by a suicide bomber who was riding a motorcycle and rammed into one of the vehicles.

The attack was condemned by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, who stressed that «those who perpetrate suicide attacks against Muslims cannot be Muslims», as reported by Radio Pakistan. He also stressed that the terrorists «play the game of enemies who want to destabilize Pakistan».

For his part, the Pakistani Interior Minister, Rana Sanaullah, condemned the attack and expressed his concern about the deterioration of security in the area, while promising to «pursue the terrorists and defeat their evil plans».

For the moment there is no claim of responsibility for the attack, which comes a few weeks after the armed group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known as the Pakistani Taliban, announced the breaking of the ceasefire in force in the middle of talks with the Government of Pakistan, a process mediated by the Afghan Taliban.
