The gas and ash emissions that the Cotopaxi volcano in northern Ecuador has been spewing for days have already exceeded one kilometer in height and the huge cloud is moving in a southwesterly direction, towards the coast of the country.
The Geological Institute of Ecuador has pointed out that these are mainly gas emissions, with a very low ash load, and that this Sunday has been accompanied by an internal vibration that has lasted for 20 minutes.
On October 22, Ecuador’s National Risk and Emergency Management Service (SNGRE) issued a Yellow Alert for the volcano’s area of influence to reinforce citizen preparedness and update evacuation plans.
This volcano is considered one of the most dangerous in the world due to the frequency of its eruptions, its eruption style, relief, glacier coverage and the amount of population at risk.
