French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced Sunday the return «to a normal consular relationship» with Algeria after more than a year with the issuance of visas halved by France.
Darmanin explained from Algiers that after «extremely important» talks held this Sunday, France and Algeria «have opened a new page in their relations».
The two countries now maintain a consular relationship «at the height of the extremely strong and specific friendly relationship» between the two countries, Darmanin stressed in a video posted on Twitter.
The measure has been in force since last Monday following the drastic reduction of visas for citizens of Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco in 2021 so that these countries would agree to welcome their fellow citizens expelled from France. The relationship was already normalized with Tunisia since August and with Morocco since Friday.
