At least one person has been killed and nearly 74 injured Monday when a Thai Navy ship sank in a storm off the coast of Prachuap Jiri Jan in the Gulf of Thailand.
According to the information gathered by the Thai newspaper ‘The Daily News’, five of the 74 injured are in serious condition, while 32 other people are still missing, so it is not excluded that the death toll could increase in the coming hours.
The search and rescue work, involving warships and helicopters, continues in the area, while the injured, including dozens who suffered fractures during the incident, are being evacuated and transferred to hospitals in the area.
Authorities have indicated that the ship sank due to storm water, suffered a blackout and the engine stopped working. Thus, it would have heeled to starboard, starting to capsize.
