The leader of the Democrats in the U.S. Senate, Chuck Schumer, has considered that Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski’s speech in the U.S. Congress comes «at the right time.»
«I hope that those who doubted that we should help Ukraine have heard his speech loud and clear,» he said, according to CNN.
Schumer released the message at a time when senators are trying to pass a government funding bill with billions of euros in additional aid for Ukraine.
Thus, asked about what it would mean the approval of funding to Kiev, the Democratic leader in the Upper House has indicated that the fate of the war depends on it.
«What does it mean if we don’t approve this package? If we don’t approve this kind of aid, it would mean that we would lose the war,» he remarked.
«I hope it shakes some people up. I hope people realize how important it is to pass this package,» he added.
Schumer also thanked the Ukrainian president, reiterating the support of the United States both to him and «to the brave people» of the country, according to his Twitter profile.
«Before the Congress, he has spoken about the urgency of getting this funding bill done to approve more emergency wartime funding for Ukraine,» he has added.
Zelenski has delivered a speech in the House of Representatives on Wednesday in which he has thanked for the military and financial aid packages to Kiev, but assured that «it is not enough», calling for more US artillery.
The Ukrainian president celebrated that, «against all odds, Ukraine is alive and kicking», as he declared in the Capitol, in what was the first trip abroad of the leader since the Russian invasion began on February 24.
He addressed congressmen and «all those who value freedom and justice,» while thanking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for «heroically» visiting Ukraine, and Vice Chairwoman of the Biden Administration Kamala Harris for the assistance provided.
