Ukrainian authorities reported Friday the death of at least eight civilians following shelling over the past day in the Kherson region, which also left at least 35 people wounded.
The governor of Kherson, Yaroslav Yanushevich, has detailed that in the last day the region has been hit by 74 impacts of Russian missiles and rockets in a total of 36 rounds. The projectiles have hit critical infrastructure facilities, as well as private buildings, a hospital and a school, among others.
Although at first it has been offered a balance of about twenty wounded, the deputy head of the office of the Presidency of Ukraine, Kirilo Timoshenko, has raised the figure to 35 wounded, 16 of whom are in serious condition, according to the Ukrinform news agency.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, was quick to react to the incident and, in a message on his Telegram channel, regretted that the images of the situation in Kherson, quickly spread on social networks, are unfortunately the «real life» of Ukrainians.
«Most likely, social networks will categorize these photos as «sensitive content», but «this is not sensitive content, this is the real life of Ukraine and Ukrainians,» Zelenski has denounced in a message in which he accuses Russia of being a «terrorist country».
The president not only reproached that the attack was directed against areas where there are no military facilities, but also denounced that the offensive against this residential area of Kherson took place «on Christmas Eve».
«This is not war according to the defined rules. It is terror, it is killing for intimidation and pleasure. The world must see and understand what absolute evil we are fighting against,» the Ukrainian head of state concluded.
On the other hand, in Donetsk two people have died after Russian shelling of the region, as reported by its governor, Pavlo Kirilenko, although he pointed out that the current figure is very difficult to determine precisely.
Throughout the night more shellings by the Russian forces have been registered in Sumy, Kharkov and Zaporiyia, Mikolaiv regions, among others.
