The regional police in Ace (Indonesia) have reported that the number of Rohingya migrants who have arrived in the country during the day on Monday is 185 people.

«There are 185 Rohingya migrants who have landed in Pidie, Monday, December 26 at around 5.30 p.m. (local time),» said the spokesman of the regional police, Polda Pol Winardy, in statements reported by Antara agency.

The migrants – 85 men, 70 women and 32 children – are temporarily housed in the district of Muara Tiga, in the north of the country.

Winardy said that the police are coordinating with related parties in the sectors of society to address the migration problem.

«There is an urgent need for inter-sectoral coordination to solve the Rohingya problem, considering that their landing in Ace is becoming more and more frequent,» he said.

In addition, the day before — on Christmas Day — a total of 57 migrants were also stranded in Acé, while just over a month ago, between November 15 and 16, authorities found 110 and 119 migrants stranded, respectively.

Such arrivals to Indonesia of members of the Rohingya community, fleeing not only religious persecution in their home country of Burma, but also the horrible conditions in refugee camps in Bangladesh, are common.

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has already called on governments in the region to listen to the pleas of 190 people adrift between the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

According to UNHCR, these people have been at sea for a month in appalling conditions, without sufficient food and water, while the states of the region look the other way. There are reports that some twenty people are said to have died while waiting to be rescued.
