The Angolan Supreme Court has ordered the temporary seizure of all assets and property of Isabel dos Santos, daughter of the deceased former president José Eduardo dos Santos, valued at 941 million euros, including one hundred percent of her shares in the company Embalvidro, of which she is the usufruct.

The seizure also includes all bank balances, current deposits in his name or shared in all banking institutions, according to the order of the Supreme Court, dated September 19, but made public this Tuesday by several media, among them ‘Jornal de Angola’.

The Angolan Supreme Court has also authorized the seizure of 70 percent of the shares of the company UPSTAR Comunicação and the same percentage of MSTAR SA, a telecommunications company in Mozambique, as well as 100 percent of Unitel, another company in this sector, in Cape Verde and Sao Tome and Principe.

Earlier this month, several media reported that Interpol had issued an arrest warrant for Dos Santos, accused by the Angolan Prosecutor’s Office of having caused losses to the State of more than US$5 billion during the 38 years of his father’s government.

As a result, her assets in Angola and Portugal were frozen. Dos Santos, who became the richest woman in Africa according to ‘Forbes’, has denounced being a victim of political persecution since she was prosecuted in 2020 for alleged corruption when she was president of the state-owned oil company Sonagol.

That trial began less than a week after more than 700,000 leaked documents from the business empire she heads — ‘Luanda Leaks’ — came to light, revealing how she obtained lucrative contracts in the oil, diamond and telecommunications industries during her father’s term, as well as how several Western companies helped her take the money out of the country.
