Brazil’s incoming Minister of Justice, Flavio Dino, said Tuesday that he will mobilize 100 percent of the Brasilia Police for the inauguration of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Dino declared that the event, which will take place on January 1, will be «safe and peaceful», adding that there will be a total mobilization of the security forces of the country’s capital.
«That is, 100 percent of police, military and firefighters of the Federal District to provide security not only to the President of the Republic and foreign delegations, but also to the people who will participate in the event,» reports the Brazilian newspaper ‘O Globo’.
The future Minister of Justice has also affirmed that Lula has asked for the «agreed» end of the «coup camps», which Dino called «incubators of terrorists» a few days ago.
In this line, the incoming minister has spoken of «voluntary eviction», while he has opened the door to «other possibilities of forced withdrawal» if it does not materialize voluntarily.
Justice announced this Sunday that it would reinforce the security mechanisms for Lula’s inauguration, as a preventive measure in view of the recent bomb threats registered against the country’s authorities.
The Brasilia Police detonated a suspected explosive device this weekend outside the capital’s airport and arrested a businessman, George Washington de Oliveira Sousa, who confessed to having planned an attack.
In statements to the Police, the man affirmed that the act was planned by members of the events in favor of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), which take place at the Army headquarters, in Brasília, reports the news portal G1.
