The Bolivian Foreign Ministry has contacted this Tuesday the Spanish Embassy and the Consulate General of Chile to ask for explanations for the «unwise» statements made by Vox deputy Víctor González Coello de Portugal, who traveled to the Andean country to show his support for an opposition leader arrested last week.
The Spanish deputy visited with the Chilean Luis Fernando Sanchez the Santa Cruz Police command and made statements there questioning the police action following the arrest of Luis Fernando Camacho, governor of this region and who was arrested in connection with the events of 2019 that led to the departure of Evo Morales from the Presidency.
«The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the respective diplomatic channels, requested the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain and the Consulate General of Chile in Bolivia, information regarding the ‘observer status’ that both parliamentarians publicly declared to have in national territory,» it has explained in a statement.
In addition, it has expressed «rejection» to the actions of the deputies, «who without any accreditation assumed the representation of their Governments and/or Congresses, which constitutes an unacceptable interference in the internal affairs» of the Latin American country.
The same was defended on Monday by the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Integration, Benjamín Blanco, who affirmed that «no country is authorized to intervene in matters that are essentially of internal jurisdiction of the states».
Blanco was also particularly critical of the Vox deputy, stressing that it is not the first time he travels to Bolivia and carries out «acts of meddling», since he was already in the past together with then minister Arturo Murillo during the government of Jeanine Añez. «He was part of everything that was that unconstitutional period in our country,» he denounced.
Gonzalez, for his part, has reacted on his Twitter to the words of the Bolivian vice minister, accusing in turn former president Evo Morales — of the same party as the current president, Luis Arce — of interference in the protests that are taking place in southern Peru.
«It would be good that he roundly condemns the interference of Evo Morales in Peru,» he said, «and at the same time, if he deems it appropriate, that we finish explaining the millionaire financing of the government of Evo Morales to the Podemos environment».
