A Jetstar Japan airliner has made an emergency landing at an airport in Aichi prefecture, central Japan, following a suspected bomb threat.
There were 136 passengers and six crew members on board the plane, who had to evacuate through the emergency chutes. According to authorities, at least five people were injured during the evacuation.
The plane crash-landed at around 07.30 (local time) at the airport in the Chubu region, according to the Japanese news agency NHK. However, it was departing from Narita airport, near Tokyo, and was bound for Fukoka airport in southwestern Japan.
As reported by the aforementioned agency, sources close to the incident have informed that Narita airport received a call from Germany at around 06.20 a.m. (local time) and that the voice of a man, in English, claimed to have placed an explosive in the cargo room of the Jetstar plane. The alleged perpetrator demanded to speak to a company manager or else he would detonate the bomb.
According to authorities, so far no suspicious object has been located on the plane. The Japanese airport closed its runway temporarily but operations are now back to normal.
