The Colombian government has transferred from prison up to five leaders of criminal organizations as a result of secret contacts with these groups to achieve the «total peace» to which Gustavo Petro’s government aspires.
The criminals are said to be leaders of the Oficina de Envigado, Los Pachelly and two gangs from the city of Cali, according to an investigation by Colombian newspaper ‘El Tiempo’, which even points to the possible release from prison of drug trafficking kingpin José Leonardo Muñoz Martínez, alias ‘Douglas’, transferred to the maximum security prison of La Picota, in Bogotá.
The government is trying to have ‘Douglas’ appointed as a «peace manager» and released from prison, despite the fact that he has been convicted of extortion, which would prevent him from playing this role.
Among the beneficiaries would also be Juan Carlos Mesa Vallejo, alias ‘Tom’, transferred from La Picota to the maximum security prison La Paz, in Itagüí, Antioquia. Alberto Antonio Henao Acevedo, alias «Albert», leader of one of the drug trafficking networks of the Pachelly gang, active in the Aburrá Valley, was also transferred to the same place.
Tom’ controls 65 percent of La Oficina, which includes criminal gangs such as La 12, Los Chatas and Los Triana, with a presence in Bogota and Soacha.
