The parliamentary benches of the Workers’ Party (PT) and the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL) in Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies have asked the Supreme Court to investigate the cases of congressmen in the anti-democratic acts that took place on Sunday in Brazil, with thousands of supporters of Jair Bolsonaro storming the headquarters of the three branches of government.
The PT has asked Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes to be in charge of these investigations, which would involve elected Bolsonarist congressmen Clarissa Tércio, Silvia Waiãpi, André Fernandes and alternate Pâmela Bório, asking that the first three not be allowed to take office.
At the same time, the petition demands that the four be included in the investigations led by De Moraes on the cases of fake news during the campaign, that of digital militias and the one that directly points to Bolsonaro for linking coronavirus vaccines to AIDS.
For its part, PSOL has requested that the investigation include Senator-elect Magno Malta and deputies Ricardo Barros, Márcio ‘Coronel’ Tadeu, José Mederios and Carlos Jordy, most of them from Bolsonaro’s Liberal Party, and that their passports be withdrawn and they be banned from using social networks.
Along with these complaints before the Supreme Court, others will also be filed in the regional electoral courts and in the ethics councils of the Congress, reports the newspaper ‘Folha de Sao Paulo’.
Before both formations made their intentions official, the leader of the Government in Congress, Senator Randolfe Rodrigues, announced that all the congressmen who participated in the anti-democratic acts will be investigated, citing, without naming directly, the pro-Bolsonarist indigenous Silvia Waiãpi.
Rodrigues is one of the main promoters of a special parliamentary commission to investigate what happened on Sunday and to elucidate the role of involvement of Bolsonaro, who has been in the United States for two weeks.
«There will be no tolerance for terrorism in the streets, there will be no tolerance for terrorism here in Congress. Whoever did not condemn the acts that occurred is allied with fascism,» said Rodrigues, who accused Bolsonaro of being behind the events of Sunday.
Thousands of supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro stormed the headquarters of the three branches of government in Brasilia on Sunday, after two months camped out in front of the Army headquarters demanding a coup d’état.
As a consequence of the «coupist» and «terrorist» acts, as defined by the authorities, the Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes dismissed the governor of Brasilia, Ibaneis Rocha, and the Security Secretary, Anderson Torres, for «omission» of functions and «connivance» with the mob.
