At least five people were injured Wednesday at the hands of a man armed with a knife at the Gare du Nord train station in Paris, the French capital.
Police said the incident took place early in the morning, at around 6.40 a.m. (local time), and said that an officer was among the injured.
The alleged assailant was arrested shortly after the police opened fire on him, according to Le Figaro.
The state railway company SNCF explained that the wounded were evacuated from the station shortly after the emergency services arrived at the scene of the attack. The area has been cordoned off, while the train service is operating normally.
