Brazilian police confirmed Wednesday that a German tourist who had been missing for several days has been found dead in Rio de Janeiro, German news agency DPA reported.
Fishermen found the man’s body on Monday near the Cagarras islands, off the coast of the Brazilian metropolis, and called the fire department, the agents told DPA.
The police assured that the man had drowned, although no further details were given. Forensic experts have identified the body based on dental records sent from Germany.
Investigations are underway and witness statements are being taken.
The German consulate in Rio de Janeiro and the German embassy in Brasilia have so far not responded to questions about the case.
