The Peruvian Ombudsman’s Office announced Wednesday the death of a new person in clashes with security forces during the protests that are taking place in the country to demand the ouster of Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, early elections and the closure of Congress.
Remo Candia Guevara, the president of the peasant community of Anansaya Urinsaya Ccollana de Anta, located in Cuzco, in the southeast of the country, was the person who lost his life, as detailed by the Ombudsman’s Office.
«We regret that clashes in Cuzco have caused the death of the president of the community of Anansaya Urinsaya Ccollana de Anta, Remo Candia Guevara. We ask the director of the Lorena Hospital to communicate with the prosecutor on duty to perform the necropsy,» said the agency in a statement.
«We demand an immediate investigation to find those responsible for the death and proceed to the respective sanction. Our commissioners are on alert in areas of mobilization in regions of the country,» added the Peruvian Ombudsman’s Office.
With this new death, at least 46 people have died since the outbreak of the mobilizations for the dismissal of President Pedro Castillo, who was removed by the Congress after trying to arrogate to himself more powers in order to form a government of exception.
