The secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksi Danilov, has advocated on Friday to expel from the Parliament the deputies of the Platform for Life formation, opponent of the current government of President Volodimir Zelenski.
According to Danilov, the MPs of the formation are responsible for having brought the war to Ukraine and for having «constantly watched over the interests of the Russian Federation» on Ukrainian territory, Ukrinform news agency reported.
For the secretary of the Security Council, the Platform for Life parliamentarians have Russian President Vladimir Putin as «an idol.» «None of them has the right, at least morally, to be inside the Parliament,» he asserted.
Danilov emphasized that for 30 years the state has turned a blind eye to Russian-friendly parliamentarians, but that now, in a context of war with the neighboring country, it is unacceptable for pro-Russians to be present in the seat of popular sovereignty.
The Platform for Life party was already suspended in mid-March, just a few days after the outbreak of the war, by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on the grounds of its alleged collaboration and affinity with Russia.
Days later, the formation announced its dissolution on the grounds that its goal of achieving peace in the country was not possible in the warmongering context. «We have always talked about peace. The party was built as a party of peace. But now there is no peace, the party is suspended,» said its co-chairman, Vadim Rabinovich.
Under the excuse of the war, Ukrainian authorities have suspended around a dozen opposition political formations for their alleged links with «some political structures» in Russia.
