The White House reported Saturday that six more secret pages were found Wednesday at President Joe Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware, dating from the time he was vice president with Barack Obama.
One of the documents was located in a room adjacent to the garage late Friday night. The lawyers who discovered it did not have security clearances and therefore interrupted the search, explained Biden’s special counsel Richard Sauber, quoted by the newspaper ‘The Hill’.
Sauber himself, who does have security clearances, arrived on Friday night at the site and transferred the documents to the Justice Department. «As I was taking it to the Justice Department officials five additional pages with classified document stamps appeared among all the material. There were six pages in all. The DOJ officials with me immediately took them over,» he said.
This brings to two dozen the number of secret documents found in Wilmington. Biden himself arrived at the house on Friday and is scheduled to spend the weekend there as he usually does.
Sauber reiterated the White House’s willingness to cooperate with the special deputy appointed last Thursday to look into the matter. «The president’s lawyers have acted immediately and voluntarily to provide the Penn Biden documents to the Archives and the Wilimington documents to the Justice Department,» he explained.
«We have released specific details of the documents identified, how they were identified and where they were located,» he added.
Last November 2, lawyers for the president found ten classified documents in the Washington office used by Biden between 2017 and 2019, when he worked as an honorary professor at the University of Pennsylvania, as reported by the CBS network and later confirmed by the White House.
On Wednesday, new document finds were reported in another location and on Thursday the White House confirmed that it was the Biden home in Wilmington.
Biden has expressed surprise at the presence of secret documents from his time as vice president and has repeatedly stated that he takes the management of official documents very seriously.
Hundreds of secret documents were found last year at former President Donald Trump’s mansion in Mar a Lago, Florida. Some were marked with a «top secret» stamp.
