At least 44 Brasilia police officers were injured in clashes with assailants during anti-democratic acts at the headquarters of the three branches of government on January 8.

This was reported by the security controller in the Federal District (Brasilia), detailing that the assailants were «prepared for combat» and that they almost killed a member of the Military Police, reported ‘O Globo’.

«We have 44 military police wounded in combat. They were confronted by professional men among the demonstrators. Trained and prepared people. People who had a sense of confrontation tactics, people who had their own gloves to return grenades and artifacts and people who were about to take the life of a military policeman, Capelli has asserted in declarations collected by the mentioned newspaper.

In this sense, the Brasilia security inspector assured that «it is time to separate the wheat from the chaff», underlining the need to highlight those who were accomplices during the assault as opposed to those who «honor the institution».

«The night of the 8th is not over yet. The 8th is not over yet. That night still has a lot to do, a lot of history behind it, a lot of research and we will go to the end,» Capelli warned.

After the assault on the headquarters of Brazil’s three branches of government, it has emerged that members of the Army or the Police refused to carry out arrests or demobilize the camps that supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro had set up in cities across the country.

On that day, assailants invaded the Congress buildings, the Planalto Palace and the Federal Supreme Court (TSF), destroying a large part of the premises in their path, all after a timid action by the Military Police.
