The Indonesian Geological Survey (BMKG) reported Sunday a 6.2 magnitude earthquake detected in Indonesian waters, with no news of a possible tsunami at this time.
The earthquake was recorded at 5.30 local time (23.30 Spanish peninsular time) in the north of the island of Sumatra, 47 kilometers southeast of the Indonesian town of Kabupaten Aceh Singkil. The tremor occurred at a depth of 23 kilometers.
So far, the Indonesian authorities have not issued any tsunami warning or reported any loss of life, although they have warned of possible aftershocks.
In fact, after the earthquake an aftershock of 3.4 and another of 3.3 have been recorded in the same area.
