The German government plans to resolve «in the next few days» its doubts about the possible shipment of Leopard tanks to Ukraine, according to Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who has marked as the first step the preparation of an inventory of the tanks currently available.
Once this inventory has been drawn up, and «if there is a yes», the issue could be resolved in a matter of days, said Pistorius in an interview with the ZDF channel, hours before meeting NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Berlin pledges to act «quickly», also with regard to the training of personnel and the deployment of tanks.
However, Pistorius clarified that the final decision rests with the office of the Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, after speculation in recent days about a possible split within the tripartite coalition over aid that the main Ukrainian authorities have been calling for publicly and in all kinds of forums for days.
