The Minister of the Interior of France, Gérald Darmanin, has expressed his «solidarity» with Spain for the «ignoble attacks» perpetrated on Wednesday afternoon in the town of Algeciras, Cadiz, which resulted in the death of a Catholic sacristan.

Darmanin has expressed his condolences via Twitter, in a message addressed to his counterpart, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, to the Spanish «friends» and, in particular, to the Catholic faithful, since the alleged attacker entered several churches.

France has suffered in recent years several attacks against Christian temples, including one committed in April 2016 in a church in Normandy that resulted in the death of a priest. The jihadist terrorist group Islamic State claimed this action.
