The People’s Defense Forces (PDF), the Burmese armed resistance against the coup military junta that has ruled the country since the military uprising of February 1, 2021, reported Friday that 27 members of the army, including several senior officers, have been killed in new attacks over the past three days.
The Burmese resistance said several governors were among the junta members killed, while noting that three members of the resistance also died during the fighting.
The clashes have been reported in several parts of the country, including Sagaing, Mandalay, Magwe, Bago and Tanintharyi, among others, according to The Irrawaddy news portal.
The FDP also claimed that they have managed to take control of the locality of Shwe Pyi Aye, in Homalin, after a clash with the Burmese military. However, they have warned the population of the area of possible shelling and fighting in the coming days.
Burma has been plunged into a serious political and economic crisis since the coup, which has provoked strong waves of protests throughout the country. The Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners (AAPP) estimates that more than 17,600 people have been detained since the coup, while the death toll due to repression by security forces is close to 3,000.
