Arkansas Governor and former White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders has been chosen by the Republican Party to deliver a «defense of liberty against the radical left» rejoinder to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday.
In the announcement of his nomination, picked up by CBS News, Sanders advances that the «counter speech» will demonstrate that the Republicans, thanks to the majority obtained in the lower house of Congress after the last legislative elections are «ready to begin a new chapter in the history of America, written by a new generation of leaders prepared to defend freedom against the radical left and expand access to quality education, jobs and opportunities for all».
Sanders also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to provide his party’s response to the presidential address and «contrast the Republican Party’s optimistic vision for the future with the failures of President Biden and the Democrats.
Republican leaders in both houses of Congress, Kevin McCarthy (House of Representatives) and Mitch McConnell (Senate Minority Leader) highlighted Sanders, the nation’s youngest governor, as a driving force who is bringing «new ideas for a transforming future, building on the wisdom of the past» before adding that all Americans, including President Biden, «should listen to her carefully.»
«Americans are still struggling with inflation, a border crisis, a record crime rate and a failing school system,» McCarthy has said in his statement on Sanders’ nomination, also picked up by CBS . «While House Republicans are working to fix these problems in Congress, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is tackling them head-on with her conservative, out-of-Washington agenda,» he added.
McConnell, for his part, has described Sanders as a «powerful advocate for popular conservative principles and common sense that will put our country back on a better path.»
