British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday appointed Lee Anderson as the Conservative Party’s ‘number two’ a day after replacing the Tory leader and placing Greg Hands at the head of the party.
His appointment is part of a reform of the Cabinet after the latest scandals, especially around the figure of Nadhim Zahawi, accused of tax irregularities.
Now, Anderson has been chosen to assume the vice-presidency of the party, a controversial figure for offending mainly liberal voices. The choice has come as a surprise to many given that he is not exactly considered one of Sunak’s main allies.
Anderson has repeatedly lashed out at some of the policies put forward by the British premier, according to reports on BBC television. Sunak announced on Tuesday the introduction of organizational changes with the appointment of Michelle Donelan as Minister of Science, Lucy Frazer at the head of Culture and Kemi Badenoch in Business.
However, this reform does not affect for the moment the deputy prime minister, Dominic Raab, who for now will remain in office despite being investigated for several cases of harassment at work.
