Tunisian President Kais Saied announced Tuesday the dismissal of his foreign minister, Othman al Jarandi, in what was the fourth dismissal of a ministerial portfolio in the cabinet since 2023 began.
The Tunisian Presidency office has reported that Saied «has decided to terminate the functions» of Al Jarandi, while his position has been taken over by diplomat Nabil Ammar, without giving further details on the decision of the change.
Ammar has been Tunisia’s ambassador to Brussels and to the European Union, in addition to having represented the country in Oslo and London.
Just a week ago, the Tunisian president removed from office the Ministers of Education and Agriculture, Fatí al Saluti and Abdel Moneim Balati, respectively, limiting himself to pointing out «a partial change in the government».
In addition, at the beginning of the month, Saied dismissed the Minister of Commerce, Fadila al Rabhi, the first member of Prime Minister Najla Bouden’s Executive to be relieved of her duties; and Fakher Fakhfakh, governor of Sfax, in the east of the country, located at a usual point of migratory routes.
