Former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff will be the next president of the BRICS group’s New Development Bank after Brazil won the backing of its partners for the appointment on Friday.
Lula da Silva’s government has agreed with its BRICS partners (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) to appoint the former president, thus replacing the diplomat Marcos Troyjo, appointed by former president Jair Bolsonaro, reported G1 channel.
The BRICS New Development Bank is a development bank founded by the BRICS nations in an effort to create an alternative to the World Bank or the International Monetary Fund. It is headquartered in Shanghai, China.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had been looking for a position for Rousseff, among which the Brazilian Embassy in Portugal had been considered, according to the above-mentioned media.
However, a direct advisor to Lula recommended that she be directed to the BRICS bank, which takes care of projects for the application of resources in the group’s member countries.
