Three people were shot dead Monday outside a hotel in the southern Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Mexican authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred on Monday morning next to the Fiesta Americana Condesa Hotel, the tourist area of Cancun, according to the newspaper ‘El Universal’.
The bodies of three people between 25 and 30 years of age were found dead, according to a report from the Public Security Secretariat.
The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office has initiated an investigation. One person has been detained and a special security deployment has been made in the area.
The state government has launched a special security plan for Easter Week, which includes the deployment of more than 5,000 marines, military, National Guard and local police. Authorities estimate that 1.25 million tourists will arrive in Cancun during these days.
