At least one dead and two injured after tanker truck overturns on bridge in Connecticut (USA) – POLICÍA ESTATAL DE CONNECTICUT

At least one person has been killed and two injured Friday after a tanker truck overturned, creating a large fire, on a bridge on Interstate 95 in the U.S. state of Connecticut.

The accident occurred at 11.30 a.m. (local time) due to a burst tire of a passenger vehicle that has produced a chain reaction, originating a large column of smoke and fire and has thrown a large amount of heating oil into the waters of the Thames River, as reported by the U.S. newspaper ‘The New York Times’.

Connecticut State Police representative Sgt. Christine Jeltema reported that the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 »will be closed for quite some time» while authorities determine whether it is safe to cross the bridge.

»The intense heat could potentially compromise the steel of the bridge, but we hope that’s not the case,» Gov. Ned Lamont said at a news conferencea adding that it is unclear how much fuel the truck was carrying at the time of the accident, but that its maximum capacity was 2,800 gallons.
