Ukrainian authorities have confirmed that they are in contact with groups inside Russia interested in stopping the military aggression and hindering the war launched eight months ago by President Vladimir Putin.
The spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s communication services, Andri Yusov, said on state television that «the fate of Russia is in the hands of the Russians themselves.
«Anyone who really cares about the future of Russia must understand that the sooner Putin leaves, the sooner his regime leaves, the better off the country will be,» Yusov said when asked about the sabotage that some opposition groups such as Stop the Wagons are carrying out to hinder the supply of weaponry to Russian troops.
«Ukraine has its national interests, there are many political refugees from Russia in Ukraine and, of course, we are in contact with all those who seek to protect international law and stop Russian aggression,» confirmed Yusov, who promises the dissemination of «interesting details» when the war ends.
On Tuesday, October 25, the group known as Stop the Wagons claimed responsibility for a dynamite attack on a railroad passing through Novozibkovo, a small Russian town a few kilometers from the Belarusian border. The attack is at least the sixth against Russian railway infrastructure since June. Stop the Wagons, which celebrated on Telegram the results of «this small sabotage,» seeks to prevent the transport of equipment, fuel, ammunition and other supplies for the war in Ukraine.
Russia’s military relies heavily on its rail infrastructure to transport its military equipment and personnel to Ukraine. However, its more than 33,000-kilometer network transits largely isolated areas, making it very difficult to establish a comprehensive security system.
