An Israeli serviceman was seriously injured Wednesday morning in an alleged intentional hit-and-run attack on a police checkpoint in the West Bank city of Modin.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that the attacker, a Palestinian citizen, died after being shot by the soldier, who remained on the ground after being rammed by the vehicle, according to The Times of Israel.
Palestinian media identified the man as Habas Rayan, 54, from Bayt Duqu. The soldier was taken to Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem, where he is in serious but stable condition.
The incident takes place one day after the elections held in Israel, which led the authorities to close the border crossings for Palestinian citizens in the West Bank.
