The White House has condemned the shootings in recent days in the United States that have claimed the lives of two people and injured 23 others, saying that gun violence in the country «is an epidemic.»

This was signed in a statement by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre, lamenting that «in the last day and a half, more American families have been scarred by the devastating effects of gun violence.»

«Last night in Houston, award-winning recording artist Kirsnick Khari Ball, also known as Takeoff, lost his life at the age of 28, and two others were injured. In Chicago, 14 people were injured by gunfire and one was injured by a vehicle while attempting to flee last night,» Jean-Pierre has listed, also mentioning a shooting at a Hallowenn party in Kansas City in which a teenager was killed.

«These are just the shootings that made national headlines. In other cases, we may not know the names of the victims, but we are equally mourning with their families and communities. Our deepest sympathies are with the families of each and every victim,» the White House spokeswoman said.

In this sense, Jean-Pierre asserted that gun violence in the United States «is an epidemic that will not end with thoughts and prayers alone,» and called on the U.S. Congress to approve a package of measures proposed by President Joe Biden.

«President Biden will continue to do everything in his power to reduce gun violence, including calling on Congress to increase funding for community violence intervention, ensure universal background checks, and send legislation to his desk that would ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. It is time we turned our pain into purpose,» added Jean-Pierre.
