Paul Pelosi, the husband of U.S. Congress Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was released Thursday from Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFGH) after being hospitalized for six days after being assaulted at his home, the family said in a statement.

Pelosi, 82, was hospitalized last Friday when he was attacked by a person who entered his home looking for the president of the U.S. Congress, inflicting serious injuries to his right arm and hands, as well as a fractured skull, which has been operated on.

«The Pelosi family is grateful for the beautiful outpouring of love, support and prayers from around the world. Paul is grateful to the emergency operator, EMS, trauma care team, ICU staff and all the medical staff at ZSFGH for the excellent and compassionate life-saving treatment he received after the violent assault in our home,» Nancy Pelosi’s press office has asserted in the missive.

«Paul remains under the care of doctors as he continues to progress through a long process of recovery and convalescence. He is now at home surrounded by his family who request privacy,» it added.

The official police version says that Pelosi’s assailant, David DePape, entered the family home in San Francisco with the intention of taking the Speaker of the House hostage, confronting her husband, who, after being hit with a hammer, had to undergo surgery.

DePape’s Internet records describe him as a person prone to indulging in conspiracy theories on a wide variety of topics, from aliens, communism, Jews, voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election and other types of conspiracies embraced by the American far right.
