Approval of Chile’s president, Gabriel Boric, has hit rock bottom this October, standing at just 31 percent, the lowest figure reflected in polls since he took office last March.

According to the data offered in the latest survey by Criteria, a company specialized in public opinion studies, Boric not only faces a plunge in approval, but 57 percent of those surveyed disagree with his administration.

Therefore, support has dropped by seven percent compared to last September, the same figure in which dissatisfaction with the president has increased, according to the Canal 13 television channel.

As regards the Government as a whole, disapproval rises to 62 percent, also reaching the highest figure since the inauguration of the Executive, although still notably below the data obtained by Sebastián Piñera’s cabinet, which reached figures close to 90 percent.

At the economic level, close to 60 percent of the Chilean population considers the outlook to be negative, a figure that had been reduced last month after the victory of the ‘Rejection’ of the new Constitution, but which is now on an upward trend again.

Only one percent of those surveyed say that the economic situation in the country is good, while 40 percent of Chileans consider it to be fair. However, at a personal level, 39 percent evaluate their situation as good and only ten percent consider their economic conditions to be good.

Another of the most outstanding aspects is the fight against crime, an aspect that increases among the concerns of the population just in a month in which it was two years since the massive protests registered in the country, known as ‘Social Outbreak’, and whose anniversary was surrounded by incidents in the streets of several cities, especially in the capital, Santiago.

At that time, 53 percent of the population considered that the Carabineros encouraged violent incidents, although now, years later, only 28 percent say so.
