Ukrainian state operator Ukrenergo on Sunday announced power cuts in seven regions of the country, including the capital, due to increased consumption on weekends at the height of the war.
The cuts will affect Kiev region, capital Kiev, Chernigov, Cherkasi, Yitomir, Sumy, Kharkov and Poltava, according to Ukrenergo’s statement posted on its Telegram channel.
«This Saturday, November 5, the country consumes more electricity than on weekdays – Thursday and Friday. Because of this, unfortunately, the schedules are not enough to maintain stable operation of the power system, the message said.
The operator notes that these «controlled restrictions» are necessary «to reduce the load on the networks, support the sustainable balance of the energy system and prevent accidents.»
Ukrenergo invites Ukrainians to «consciously treat electricity consumption,» especially during peak morning and evening consumption hours.»
