The U.S. State Department confirmed Monday the death of a new U.S. citizen in Ukraine, the sixth since the start of the war in the European country more than eight months ago.
«We can confirm the death of a U.S. citizen in Ukraine,» said a State Department spokesman who, however, did not expand on this information out of «respect for the family,» according to CNN.
The U.S. diplomacy spokesman also said that the U.S. authorities are in contact with the family of the deceased and are trying to provide as much consular assistance as possible.
The Ukrainian authorities confirmed at the end of October a new exchange of prisoners with Russia, among which was also the lifeless body of the American «volunteer» Joshua Alan Jones, killed in combat on August 23.
Following the news, State Department spokesman Ned Price recalled the authorities’ recommendation not to travel to Ukraine and warned those who travel to the European country, even to participate in the fighting, that «the United States cannot guarantee their safety».
